Log Dog Kennels

Our Mission:

The 30th Judicial District Domestic Violence-Sexual Assault Alliance was established in 1998 as a 501c3 non-profit, non-governmental agency to serve victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Its mission is to serve far Western North Carolina in the rural beautiful Smoky Mountains. Over the years, the Alliance has built strong collaborative partnerships with other agencies and community organizations. Through these collaborations, the work of the Alliance increased to include victims with disabilities, elder victims of abuse and financial exploitation, and children and youth exposed to violence. The creation of Log Dog Kennels evolved for a number of reasons. The primary reason came from the continued need to help heal those who are victims of violence, especially the children and youth who grow up in homes where abuse is constant and survival skills are critical. In more than 72% of homes where there is violence and pets, these pets become targets of the violence as well. Often children witness a pet being abused.

Because animals hold such a strong healing power, the creation of Log Dog Kennels became part of the mission of the Alliance. Rescue dogs can be placed with Log Dog and will be assessed, cared for, and given a job of helping to heal a child or an adult victim of violence. They will find a home and a purpose. Therapy dogs will be trained and will be present during individual and group counselling offered by trained clinicians and therapy dog owners. These dogs will also be part of a Mobile Dog Unit that will travel to schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and other important places. Service dogs will also be trained or will be part of a connection network to help those in need. This will include children, youth, and adults with disabilities who could benefit from the support of a dog who can help to remove barriers. Soldier dogs will be part of the connection process with a goal of helping any service man or woman who could benefit greatly from a special dog that will provide comfort and support during transitions and challenges.

From a non-profit, entrepreneurial standpoint, Log Dog Kennels will also have a state of the art Boarding Kennel open to all that will generate the revenue to support the Dog Programs and Services that the Alliance will grow and manage. Every person that boards their dog with Log Dog Kennels will, in turn, be helping a child or an adult heal and will be helping another animal to heal as well.

Log Dog Kennels is currently in Phase I of land acquisition, construction and start-up. A fund raising campaign is currently being launched to raise the initial $6 million dollars needed to establish the boarding kennel and the therapy and service dog components. The total project cost will be $12 million dollars. All donations are tax deductible and your tax advisor can assist you with this.
